Launchpad Digital Media and Edison Research Partner to Provide Podcasting Audience Measurement Launchpad Digital Media will partner with Edison Research to measure the expanding audience from podcasts. Edison will collect and audit data from all Launchpad podcasts and generate monthly figures. Launchpad is a division of Norm Pattiz's Courtside Entertainment Group. "We formed Launchpad to apply proven, successful monetization methods to the expanding world of on-demand digital media," says Pattiz. "To do that you need to speak the advertisers' language. These new metrics will put the sizable podcast audience in terms advertisers can understand and utilize effectively. I worked closely with Edison Research to establish similar metrics when I was on the board of the Broadcasting Board of Governors of the United States of America. We launched Arabic language radio and satellite television services to 22 countries in the Middle East. If we can measure the audience in Arabic, English should be no problem at all." Edison Research President Larry Rosin says, "We are excited to begin this new relationship with Launchpad Digital Media. The metrics Edison will be providing will further help legitimize podcasting for advertisers and help emphasize its growing prominence as a platform for listeners to consume and control their content." Launchpad President Kit Gray adds, "The podcasting space is growing at an enormous rate. Technology has empowered audiences and they are demanding on-demand media like never before. Until now advertisers lacked the in-depth audience measurement tools available to them with more traditional forms of media. Podcasters will now be able to quantify their audience in a language familiar to the advertising community." TJ Taormina Gets Mornings at Boston's '103.3 Amp Radio' TJ Taormina is named morning show host at CBS Radio CHR-Top40 "100.3 Amp Radio" WODS-FM, Boston. Taormina, who starts in April, joins from the syndicated Clear Channel/Premiere Networks "Elvis Duran Morning Show" based at "Z100" WHTZ-FM, New York. Says WODS-FM Program Director Dan Mason, "TJ is a unique talent, with a passion for radio that is unmatched. I'm thrilled that 103.3 Amp Radio is able to bring him to Boston, and I am positive he will be a cornerstone for our success in the future." Taormina says, "The chance to join the Amp team in Boston and host the morning show is a life-long dream come true! I look forward to working with the entire CBS Radio team to make the morning show on Amp a powerhouse, 'can't-miss' show." WODS-FM is now beginning a search for a co-host and producer for Taormina's show. Taormina began his career in high school volunteering at Fairleigh Dickinson University's WFDU-FM, running public service tapes on weekends. In 2002, after getting accepted into FDU’s broadcasting department, he landed an internship with Elvis Duran. Eddie Fennell Named WUSL-FM/WDAS-FM Philadelphia Assistant PD Clear Channel Philadelphia names Edwin "Eddie F" Fennell as Assistant Program Director and Music Director for Urban "Power 99" WUSL-FM and Urban AC WDAS-FM, effective immediately. Fennell began his career at "Power 99" as an intern in 2001 and and moved up to producer, parttime air personality and assisting in programming and imaging. He was promoted to Assistant Music Director for "Power 99" in 2008. He will also continue as Imaging Director for WUSL-FM, WDAS-FM and WDAS-AM, as well as Imaging Coordinator for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s National Programing Platforms team. Fennell also will continue producing and hosting "The Streetz Sportz Reportz" on "Power 99" weekdays at 8pm. "Eddie has shown tremendous professionalism and a 'team first' attitude. For those reasons, amongst many others, he's earned this new position," says Clear Channel Media and Entertainmnt Philadelphia Director of Urban Programming Derrick Corbett. "I can't describe how thankful and blessed I am for this opportunity," says Fennell. "For all the people that opened the door for me and shared their knowledge and leadership, I hope I make them proud." Creamy or Chunky? At Philadelphia's 'Wired 96.5', Definitely Chunky! While others are playing along with the current stunt, we have confirmed that Chunky has joined Beasley Rhythmic CHR "Wired 96.5" WRDW-FM, as the new morning co-host. Chunky, formerly with "92.3 Now" in New York, recently exited "Z90" XHTZ-FM, San Diego, saying he had a new gig that he couldn't yet announce. He hinted that he would be returning to the East Coast (but not New York City). The current stunt finds Chunky supposedly from a Philly cheesesteak location being asked to guest on the morning show with Tingle and JP, and then word that he was being added as a regular without management approval. A blog post says, "We're starting a morning show. We're seriously bored of just giving away prizes & playing music in the morning. SO WE TOOK IT UPON OURSELVES... to recruit our sales girl Ghia & our dude that makes our Cheesesteaks at Pat's, Chunky (against our boss's wishes). He wanted us to just shut up and play music... we want to give you more! Dan doesn't know we posted this on our website as of now." On the record, Program Director Dan Hunt won't comment. But our source at "Wired" says once the stunt is fully played out, an official announcement will be forthcoming. (While we're waiting, someone get us one of those cheesesteaks, please!) Cathy Carrier Joins Wichita's '97.1 Bob FM' Market veteran Cathy Carrier joins Connoisseur Media's Adult Variety Hits "97.1 Bob FM" KIBB-FM, Wichita, Kansas, as the new morning show co-host, starting February 25. Connoisseur Media describes her as "one of Wichita's most familiar names in morning radio and weather forecasting." She will join current host Trace Taul, bringing her daily Wichita weather forecasts to both "Bob" and Country sister "100.5 The Wolf" KVWF-FM. Carrier will make daily appearances with "Manny in the Morning" on "The Wolf" to talk weather and local events. Says Connoisseur Media Wichita General Manager Doug Downs, "I am thrilled to have Cathy Carrier join our team. Connoisseur Media prides itself on having live and local personalities who are involved with our community and Cathy is a perfect fit. She's talented, well-respected, and I believe Cathy and Trace in the mornings on 97.1 Bob FM is just what listeners of Wichita radio have been waiting for." Program Director Pat James believes the time was right for his stations to welcome a well-known talent like Carrier. "In this era of syndicated corporate radio, we're excited to provide Cathy Carrier a new opportunity to do the kind of live and local morning show she really wants to do, and to give our Bob FM fans a fun and familiar voice to wake up to every day." Carrier says she's eager to start her new show. "I'm very excited to join the team at Bob FM and to be working with Trace. We both look forward to spending weekday mornings with the Bob listeners and getting to know them a little better. I guess I am living proof you are never too old for new adventures!" Nielsen Q4 Revenues Up 3% - But Net Income Drops Nielsen, reporting fourth quarter and full year 2012 financial results, says Q4 revenue grew by three percent to $1.46 billion compared to the year-ago period. Adjusted EBITDA for Q4 was up six percent to $457 million, but net income fell to $39 million from $95 million. The decline is attributed to charges of $70 million, net of tax, related to the redemption of senior notes and a prepayment of a loan. Adjusted net income in Q4 was up to $234 million from $190 million a year prior. For the full year, revenue was up one percent to $5.61 billion, with adjusted EBITDA up four percent to $1.60 billion. Net income for the year grew from $86 million in 2011 to $273 million and adjusted net income increased from $590 million in 2011 to $704 million last year. "Nielsen’s fourth quarter results showed strong growth in recurring revenue and continued margin expansion," says Nielsen CEO David Calhoun. "Our full year performance demonstrated the overall resilience of our business despite a tougher environment for corporate spending. We remain focused on delivering value to clients, investing to grow our business and expanding our capabilities. We are pleased to deliver enhanced shareholder value as we begin paying a quarterly dividend."
