WSJ Radio Net's 'The Daily Wrap' to End

The Wall Street Journal Radio Network says "The Daily Wrap" with Michael Castner will end in April. Affiliates have been given 90 days notice that the program will be ending production. The show, which has been fed live from 6-9pm ET, recently lost its largest affiliate with the end of "News Talk 96.9" at WTKK-FM, Boston. WSJRN Executive Director Nancy Abramson tells us, "We are really proud of our lineup and the content we produced." But, she adds, "financial factors beyond our control have forced us to end production in April. We are appreciative of the support provided by our numerous affiliates. We know they are disappointed as are we." With the loss of its Boston affiliate, the program's remaining large market clearances were delayed late night broadcasts in Phoenix and Denver. Launched in April 2011, "The Daily Wrap" brought in Castner from News Talk WRNO-FM, New Orleans, where he hosted the morning show.

KNOM-AM-FM to Receive NAB Crystal Heritage Award at NAB Show

KNOM-AM-FM Nome, Alaska, is the fourth station in history to receive the NAB Crystal Heritage Award, recognizing a radio station's long-term commitment to community service. The award will be presented during the NAB Show Radio Luncheon, April 9 in Las Vegas and sponsored by ASCAP. The Crystal Heritage Award honors those stations that have won a total of five Crystal Radio Awards, which recognize radio stations' year-round community service efforts. "It is such an honor for radio station KNOM to be recognized for outstanding community service with the 2013 Crystal Heritage Award," says General Manager Ric Schmidt. "Five times we have been honored with a Crystal, along with nine other exemplary community service oriented radio stations. This recognition helps to reinvigorate and encourage the KNOM staff and volunteers as we struggle to serve listeners in a 100,000 square mile signal area of remote Western Alaska." Radio stations can submit entries for a Crystal Radio Award until January 31. At the NAB Show Radio Luncheon, NAB will honor this year's 10 Crystal Radio Award winners and 50 finalists. Personal money-management expert and national radio personality Dave Ramsey will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame and John Tesh, accomplished entertainer, musician, author and broadcast personality, will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
