Cumulus' New 94.7 NYC Stunting Ahead of New Format Monday

Cumulus Media's 94.7 FM in New York City has ended its simulcast of new sister WPLJ-FM and is now stunting with a variety of formats. They are billboarding the stunting as "the New York City Wheel of Formats!" We're told the real new format for WRXP-FM, New York, will be unveiled at 9:47am Monday (Jan. 21). The stunting has a website splash page now, at 947fmnewyork.com. The new format is expected to be either Country or Rock, possibly Alternative. But the word is that despite obtaining the WRXP calls letters, Cumulus will return the Country format to the Big Apple. It's also possible that the WRXP calls will not remain on the former WFME-FM. A possible domain for a Country format on the station appears ready for activation at 947NashFM.com, registered by Cumulus. Through the past week, after taking over 94,7 FM, the simulcasting with WPLJ-FM has included asking listeners what they wanted on the new Cumulus station.

UPDATE: In a Jan. 20 post at RadioInsight, Lance Venta writes: "In what will probably be our final update before tomorrow's launch, we can also add that a dozen trademark applications for 'Nash' were made by Cumulus over the past few months. Any doubt over the new format should be lifted by this point."

South Florida's WQAM-AM Suspends Host Dan Sileo for 'Sexist Comments'

"SportsRadio 560" WQAM-AM, Miami, has suspended midday host Dan Sileo for two days following "sexist insults delivered, via Twitter, to Fox broadcaster Erin Andrews," reports The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. Sileo started the barrage with comments about media coverage of the Manti Te'o story: "Media's funny on how the Te'o story was so NOT covered right by the media. Well, when bimbos like Erin Andrews," Sileo is quoted as saying. Andrews responded via Twitter: "So funny, because I never worked a Notre Dame game. Not sure how I could have covered it. Blame it on someone else." Jackson writes that Sileo then told Andrews, among other things, to "make me dinner, bake me a cake" and "go cover a cat show." He also tweeted: "I have no respect for her. Worst sports reporter chick in sports." According to the Herald report, "Sileo, who already had angered WQAM management with the initial tweets, made the situation even worse by then tweeting on Thursday evening: 'Love Erin Andrews either naked or in a porn. Not at a sports desk'." Jackson explains that in March 2010, Michael David Barrett was sentenced to 30 months in prison for filming Andrews through peepholes at hotels in Nashville and Milwaukee. One of those videos, showing Andrews naked, was posted on the Internet and went viral. On Saturday, Sileo tweeted: "Wanted to apologize [for] the peephole and porn stuff. Whatever I think of ur work... not cool. I have a daughter." Beasley's WQAM-AM declined to comment on the suspension. Sileo is off his 10am-1pm show Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 21-22). He joined his current station after leaving "Tampa Bay's Sports Radio 620" WDAE-AM last year.
