Fort Myers Rock '99X' Will Live On (Sorta) -- Friday, we reported that Beasley Sports Talk "770 ESPN" WWCN-AM, North Fort Myers, Florida, will move from AM to FM as "99.3 ESPN" June 20, displacing/replacing Active Rock "99X" WJBX-FM. At the same time, we told you that there was speculation as to whether the programming of "99X" might survive its exit from 99.3 FM, as the station promised an "exciting announcement." Now we know that the Rock format of “99X” will merge with sister Hot Talk "96 K-Rock" WRXK-FM, Bonita Springs, starting Monday (June 17). "K-Rock" will continue airing syndicated morning host Bubba The Love Sponge and afternoon hosts Stan and Haney while shifting to the music from "99X." The merged station will be dropping local midday hosts "Zito and Garrett" and the syndicated "Lex and Terry" and Artie Lange. Current WJBX-FM morning host DC will segue to middays on "K-Rock." We're told that the rest of the WJBX-FM on-air staff -- including midday host Roger Marley and night host Gabbi -- will move to a new Alternative station that will debut next month. The new station will be known as "The Link" according to Beasley. It's expected that "The Link" will air on the four FM translators that had been simulcasting WWCN-AM.
