Classical 'W-Bach' Set to Return to Portland Maine "Maine’s iconic WBACH is set to return to the Portland airwaves on Monday, April 15 on the 96.9 FM frequency," says a news release from Classical "W-Bach 106.9" WBQX-FM, Thomaston, Maine, the one remaining signal of what once was a trimulcast. The announcement tells us that Portland FM translator W245AA, on 96.9, will end a simulcast with Country "99.9 The Wolf" WTHT-FM, Auburn, and WBQQ-FM, Kennebunk, to air the Classical "W-Bach" in Portland. Says the station, "The signal which has rebroadcast the Country format of 99.9 The Wolf for the past 9 years will return the popular Breakfast With Bach Morning Show with Scott Hooper, announcers Don Spencer, Larry King, and long standing weekend programming including the Kid’s Classical Hour, Saturday Night Classic Jazz, and the Paul Parent Garden Show to the greater Portland area." According to WBQX-FM, the 96.9 signal covers the greater Portland region including Biddeford, Saco, Scarborough, Westbrook, and Falmouth. "In addition, WBACH will also be heard in high definition all throughout Southern and Central Maine on the 50,000 watt HD2 channel of the 99.9 frequency for listeners with HD radios. WBACH is currently heard on the 106.9 frequency covering all of the Mid Coast and Central Maine from Brunswick through Ellsworth." The original Classical trimulcast was ended with last year's breakup of Nassau Broadcasting, when the other two "W-Bach" stations were sold to different owners and adopted new formats.
